"content": "Thank you very much, Hon. Deputy Speaker. On behalf of the Departmental Committee on Lands, I look forward to receiving the Petition. We will do due diligence to make sure that we look at all the issues raised therein. Also, in the past few months, some amendment laws on lands were passed by this House and assented to by the President. In those amendment laws, there are specific items or clauses that speak to resettlement of squatters across the country. As far as historical injustices are concerned, those Bills spell out very clearly what the National Land Commission (NLC) is supposed to do, and what process they are supposed to begin. I encourage Members, even as they bring petitions to this House, to remember that those amendment Bills are now laws. The NLC has the mandate to start looking at those relevant laws and make sure that the people who have been affected by historical injustices have a way out. Finally, as a Committee, we have prepared a number of reports. I encourage the House Business Committee (HBC) to consider allocating time to the reports that we have tabled in this House – but which have never seen the light of day – so that they can be dispensed with. Thank you, Very Much, Hon. Deputy Speaker."
