"content": "Reading the mood of the country, it is clear in my mind that we are executing a political decision, and not an ICC decision. When the Bill that domesticated the Rome Statute was brought to this House for debate, no one bothered to tell us what it was all about. I stand to be corrected, because I was not in this House then. There were 31 hon. Members. No one bothered to tell us what the Bill was all about, and it passed. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, be that as it may, I think it is fundamentally wrong for us to just sit here when some of our senior citizens are under suspicion of such high profile matters. There has been a negation of the principle of a fair trial known to mankind. It is wrong for us to just sit here and assume that it is business as usual. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I support that the Prime Minister comes in here and says whether we are a subset of another nation or we have other masters and whether we are just here for manipulation from the East or West, and further whether we can continue legislating on issues that are meaningless to our society while things that are likely to cause discord in our country continue to occur. In the absence of the Prime Minister, I would ask the President himself, who is the Commander-In-Chief of this country, to tell us whether he is commanding us in that direction or the Vice-President and Minister for Home Affairs who is present in the House today to tell us whether he concurs and why he cannot today, as the Head of State, as required by ICC statutes withdraw from that so that we know that we are dealing with an enemy who is clear and clearly a political enemy and not an ICC process?"
