"content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for being very considerate. From the outset, I support this Bill. It is a very important Bill as it tries to address the challenges we face in our land laws in this country. In particular, it will enable us to realise our development targets as a nation by enabling the Government to acquire the land it needs to develop infrastructure for public good and for the common good of this country, whether it is railways, roads or schools. In this city and our cities, we need to have mass transport. For us to realise that, we must acquire some of this land. Finally, it will enable us to realise and use the provision in the Constitution where the Government has powers to compulsorily acquire private land for purposes of development. Right now, the process is very tedious, long and protracted. This law will simplify that and enable the Government to acquire land. Under the three laws and even under the Community Land Act, which is a new law in this country, communities can disagree and deny governments the right to acquire land for public good. This law will simplify that. Because of that, I fully support the Bill."
