"content": "Eliud Wabukala Wamukekhe. Archbishop Wamukekhe has been the Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Campaign Steering Committee for close to 12 years. In those 12 years, I believe he got sufficient experience and exposure. If he is given this position, I strongly believe that they will add value to this institution. The mandate of the Commission is to combat corruption and economic crimes in Kenya through enforcement, prevention, public education, and promotion of ethical standards and operations. He has been able to deal with about three aspects of the mandate of the Commission which include public participation, public education and promotion of ethical standards. I also participated in vetting of the Chairman and I was impressed by his honesty. When we were vetting him, I asked him how he would reconcile his faith with the process of fighting corruption and dealing with cartels. I want to refer Members to page 15 of the Report. This is what he said: “As a Christian, the Bible says Government must punish evil”. He is ready to serve in Government to help punish evil because Government has defined his responsibility to inflict punishment on corrupt people. We should not kill offenders but enforce the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. Hon. Speaker, my concern was how the Archbishop will deal with a cartel of corrupt people whose business is to loot and destroy this country. He was so honest in his response. I think this is the first time in our history for an Archbishop to be given a chance to lead us in the fight against corruption. This country and this House should give a chance to this gentleman so that we will be able to assess what these men of God can do for our country. All these Members are praying to God that they can come back to Parliament after elections. None of them will avoid asking for a bishop to pray for them. These are great people and I want to believe that if we give this Archbishop a chance, there may be a time that Kenyans will say that during this time there was a difference. I support."
