    "content": "Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, Sen. Daniel Karaba rose under Standing Order No.45(2)(b) to request seek a statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries regarding the plight of farmers in Mwea Rice Irrigation Scheme. In the statement, I was requested to state:- (1) if the Government is aware that the farmers in Mwea Irrigation Scheme in Kirinyaga County are facing serious challenges in production of rice, including, but not limited to poor yields. (2) Confirm whether the Government will extend any financial assistance to the farmers in Mwea. (3) Long term measures that the Government would take to make sure that the production of rice in Mwea continues to be high. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I beg to give the following statement which was prepared by the Ministry:- (i) If the Government is aware that the farmers in Mwea Irrigation Scheme in Kirinyaga County are facing serious challenges in the production of rice?
