"content": "Madam Temporary Speaker, the President also talked about insecurity. Insecurity is one of the things that is hurting Kenyans as well as Members of Parliament both in the National Assembly and the Senate. It is time we also asked ourselves whether we are the perpetrators of the violence where our people die every day within our counties. When you look at what happened in Laikipia and Baringo counties, I pray to God that one day, as leaders, we shall ask ourselves serious questions. For instance, when you sit in Parliament and Kenyans are dying because of your name, what will be the legacy of our children that we bring up? Let us pray to God that we shall never carry the curse of the people that we lead because of the things that we did as leaders. When you look at cattle rustling, poaching and the flow of illegal arms and light weapons and the problem of marauding bandits in Laikipia, it is time we question ourselves. Recently, I saw in Nairobi that young people can just wake up and go to destroy and take over your house because the lease is over. We appreciate as Kenyans that when the leases are over, they will be turned back to our county governments. Kenyans must not suffer or be displaced because the lease is over. Parliament must look at this and come up with a law regarding leases. We have to ensure that no Kenyan suffers in the hands of a fellow Kenyan because of greed of taking over their land no The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only.
