"content": "THAT, Landi Trading Centre was established along the Elburgon-Molo (Class C56) Road in 1986, with various business people and residents settling there; THAT, the then Town Council of Molo sub-divided the land located at the trading centre for the settlement of these locals, collected land acquisition fees and issued the residents with allocation letters for the plots in February, 2006; THAT, there are currently around 62 residents domiciled in this area covering 3.5 acres; THAT, in February, 2017, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) put up beacons at the Landi Trading Centre, declaring it a road reserve, and ordered the residents to vacate the land by June 2017; THAT, this land is the main source of livelihood and residence for the locals who have been living and working on it, and its loss would destabilise the residents and cause untold suffering and anguish due to loss of homes and businesses; and, THAT, the issues in respect of which this petition is made are not pending before any court of law, constitutional or legal body. Therefore, your humble petitioners pray that the National Assembly, through the Departmental Committee on Lands:- (i) intervenes to have the area residents relocated and resettled in a more suitable location; and, (ii) makes any other further orders deemed fit in the circumstances of the petitioners. Your humble petitioners will forever pray. Thank you, Hon. Speaker."
