    "content": "Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise to move that pursuant to Standing Order No.34, the Senate do adjourn to discuss a definite matter of urgent national importance regarding the heightened political tension in the country. Madam Temporary Speaker, Edmund Burke said; “But when the leaders choose to make themselves bidders at an auction of popularity, their talents, in the construction of the state, will be of no service. They will become flatterers instead of legislators; the instruments, not the guides, of the people.” As we speak in this august House, our country is facing a lot of challenges because of the political environment that we find ourselves in. Our country went to the polls on 8th August this year. Thereafter as we are aware, there was a determination by the Supreme Court that nullified and voided the elections of the President, in this case, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. This is very unfamiliar territory."
