"content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this chance. I would like to start by congratulating you for being appointed to the Speaker’s panel. We are proud of that. I am going to be very brief. I do not want to go into the nitty-gritty because most of my colleagues have already done that. I want to start by thanking the ad hoc committee, ably co- chaired by Hon. Cheptumo and Sen. Dullo, for diligently executing its mandate. They selflessly did their work. They sacrificed and worked late into the night to ensure that these amendments are deliberated upon by the public. The Committee accommodated a lot of views. It was the most inclusive in terms of public participation. So many people participated by bringing forth memoranda. This committee elicited a lot of interest and we had millions of Kenyans watching what was going on in the Committee. For that reason, we would like to congratulate them. I also want to thank Parliament for deciding to do the amendments. Something had to be done and someone had to do it, and that is Parliament. In its wisdom and at its own time, Parliament had to do this. I want to support these amendments and the passage of the same thereafter because they are going to salvage the situation in the country now. We represent so many people who are anxious and are not happy with the uncertainty of things, unpredictability of the situation, disruption of day-to-day life and the socio-economic state of this country."
