"content": "management in cities and towns and do the same in rural settings for two reasons: When cities are chocked by waste, the natural reaction is to relocate dumpsites away from cities. As you move away from cities, you get into rural settings. Therefore, rural settings bear the burden of improper waste disposal taking place in cities. It is important to consider waste management and disposal in rural areas. The second reason is that every household in this country produces waste every day. My estimation is that on a single day our households produce not less than a half a kilogramme of waste. The other day – this is personal – I lost a very precious goose on my firm. When the bird was slaughtered, the workers realised that it had consumed polythene paper. If we control and properly manage waste disposal both within our cities, rural settings and households, Kenya will be a better place for all of us. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, lastly this Motion is very important for me and the people of Kitui County. The other day, some people went and dumped asbestos, which is very poisonous, in a water catchment area in Kitui County. We had to fight a long battle in courts to make sure that the waste is removed before the onset of rains because if that happened, there would be seepage and contamination of water downstream. As I speak to you, today in my rural town called Kabati, the effluent from the slaughter house terminates inside a church compound. Next to that slaughter house, the town dwellers have decided that it will also be their dumpsite; a situation that has made it very difficult for worshipers of Sunday to go to church and worship their God. If we had proper regulations and policies on waste management and disposal, I am very sure we would not be talking about that kind of negligence. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, once again I support. If the Motion is tabled, I will be glad to make an input to enrich it. I thank you. The Temporary Speaker (Sen. Kang’ata): I can see another request from Sen. Mwangi."
