"content": "We had extensive consultations when we were working on the amendments to the elections laws. That is when I had almost closer interaction with him. I realized that he was a level headed leader. He was humble despite his many achievements having served as a Minister in the Government of the former President Daniel Arap Moi. This is something that must be lauded. I feel for the people of Kitui West Constituency and more importantly his family members and his children who must be going through a difficult time. It can be only fair that we pray for that family. We should ask the almighty God to give them strength. I believe that he was a strong believer even as he struggled with the disease. I hope that he had time to mend his ways with God. I am sure that when we say ‘may he rest in peace’, we actually mean it in the context of eternal life. This should teach us that we are here today and gone tomorrow. As leaders, we must learn at this point in time to build bridges. We should ensure that we create better relationships, particularly between ourselves and our constituents. We have good interactions as Members of Parliament. Sometimes we joke here and even disagree, but never get to the level where someone is shot, killed or harmed. As leaders, we need to show more of that unity to the country; that we can be of different political opinion – you can be NASA or Jubilee – but the best interest of the country stays and the sanctity of life of every single Kenyan is protected. We should be willing to work as a team. I, therefore, want to also wish Hon. Raila Odinga, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, Sen. Moses Wetangula and Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, the principals of NASA, God’s grace and speed even as they mourn the departure of their political ally on their side. I wish them the very best. As Parliament, we are ready to make any contribution towards meeting the funeral expenses and any other cost that we may be requested meet, as we have always done in a bipartisan manner in both Houses. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir."
