"content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand guided. I will come back to pricing. One thing that has actually discourages farmers is pricing. I was looking at the India case where a farmer is paid between Kshs80,000 and Kshs90,000 per tonne of sugarcane. When you come to the local areas, they pay between Kshs2,500 and Kshs3,000. That is very discouraging. This is because of unnecessary deductions. I am not very much worried about zoning. It is just like shops. If we pay farmers well, and we show them how to plant and assist them to access cheap fertilizers, they will do well. Competition is allowed. I am so shocked about Mumias Sugar Company. It is the Government which actually determines who the chairman is of the Board is. This company has always been on its knees.
