    "content": "Ours is an agricultural country and research plays a very key role in enhancing agricultural productivity. Those of us from agricultural backgrounds see research as key in attaining national food and nutritional security. As a country, we have not invested substantially in the agriculture sector, despite the fact that we are part of the African Union (AU). In line with Maputo Declaration, we are supposed to commit 10 per cent of our national Budget to agriculture. We have not done that. Apart from supporting the Motion, I would like to support what the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock has said, that they need to work very closely with the National Treasury. As parliamentarians, we need to also call upon the National Treasury to enhance the budget ceiling for State Department for Agricultural Research."
