"content": "Thank you Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for this opportunity to also make my comments on this Motion for Adjournment. From the outset, I want to declare that I support the Adjournment Motion by Hon. Sossion. It is timely and we need to act on it. I know the Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research has commented that there is insecurity all over, in Mount Elgon, Kerio Valley and elsewhere. But, I thought the recent killings of teachers which happened somewhere in the former North Eastern Province was quite unique. Normally, insecurity in the Kerio Valley and elsewhere does not target teachers, but this one was targeting teachers. The situation where teachers simply get killed, possibly because they are not locals and come from far, is a unique situation which I thought is what Hon. Sossion was addressing in a way. That is why he was proposing that, since education is critical for everyone, we need to have some other interventions so that those people can get their education and at the same time security of the teachers is guaranteed. I thought it makes lots of sense. I know from interactions with teachers who were teaching in North Eastern, it looks like there is a lot of discrimination and stigmatization in those schools. They also feel that they are not respected. The kids they teach also belittle and talk badly about them. They say, “these are"
