"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity to also support you and fellow Senators in welcoming the PTA members and teachers of Alliance Girls High School. They have come at an opportune time. This is a day when the whole world is celebrating the International Women’s’ Day. Women have gone through an evolution over time. There was a time when a woman was just confined to the kitchen and was not helping in economic development. However, we have seen the woman and the girl-child evolving in terms of education. Long time ago our girls were not being educated; they were groomed for marriage. We have seen an evolution in the girl-child, who is now being educated and getting economic empowerment. I am happy that Alliance Girls’ High School is here. It shows that they are keen to see to it that the girl-child is groomed into leadership. This is what we want for this country. We are talking about affirmative action so that the girl-child also pops out. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only.
