"content": "We are expecting the bids to be returned on the 19th of this month. Evaluation will start thereafter. I estimate the evaluation exercise will be concluded and expect award for a contractor to be on site towards the end of February or early March, next year. Secondly, we had already set aside Kshs20 million for maintenance of that road. Two weeks ago, we advertised for a contractor to patch the potholes as we wait for the contractor to rehabilitate the road. So, that is what we, as a Ministry, have done. We have communicated as much to the people of Voi. I also want to thank the Commissioner of Police who has stepped in to co-ordinate the movement of traffic. He confirmed to me that this morning vehicles are now moving to Mombasa and to Nairobi. But I want to sympathise with the motorists who were unduly affected by the striking public because the Mombasa-Nairobi road has nothing to do with the road that is in question. We have told the relevant individuals to only concern themselves with the Voi-Mwatate-Wudanyi road, so as not to infringe on the rights of people on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway. The police are now on site and have taken control of the situation."
