Pursuant to Standing Order 46(2)(b) I rise to seek a statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights on the compensation of victims of the 8th August and 26th October 2017 post-election chaos. In the response, the Chairperson should address the following: (1) Give a detailed account of how many lives were lost, the actual value of property and businesses that were destroyed and adversely affected. (2) Explain in details what compensation mechanisms have been put in place so that the victims get justice and restitution. (3) Give an elaborate plan and timeframe within which the identified victims will be compensated."
