Chairman, the amendment seeks to delete the requirement that civil servants must complete 10 years before they qualify for pension as opposed to the current practice where they qualify at 5 years. Our Committee was of the opinion that given that this has been a controversial issue even in the National Assembly where to qualify for pension you must have served for more than five years, we leave it the way it is for the other civil servants. That is because this House has always been fighting to return to five years. The Leader of the Majority Party was proposing to move a further amendment to our amendment. I will ask the Leader of the Majority Party to talk about this before I finally move."
