"content": "Hon. Chairman, I tend not to agree with the Chair and I really want the House to listen to me. We must have uniformity in this country and we must not discriminate against different people. For a Member of Parliament to access pension properly, he must serve for two terms, which is 10 years. Why do we want to make other civil servants serve for five years and it is 10 years for MPs? The Bill comes from the National Treasury. It says we should have uniformity. Other civil servants access their pension after five years and MPs at 10 years. That is why I had a problem with the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning. I read the report of the people who appeared before him who had a contrary view, but it is for the House to decide. Do we still leave it at five years for civil servants and 10 years for MPs? Things are not good. The turnover here is five years. So, for now, we can put it at 10 years and if we feel we can amend it later, then we shall include the MPs also for five years. However, on this, I oppose."
