"content": "They cannot sit together in church, but they are willing to go and sit together and live in the same house with God in heaven. So, these problems of politics have permeated every sector. Pastors, churches and civil societies are struggling. The conversation that was opened on Friday must now move to the level of bringing everybody to the table of conversation and encouragement. I am so surprised that Sen. Orengo was able to quote the Bible. It is not common for him to do so. I want to quote what the Bible says. It says: “Come, let us reason together.” It is time that all of us can come and sit around a table and reason together as the people of Kenya without worrying so much about it. How beautiful will it be when NASA will run their political campaigns, selling their manifesto and their agenda by using a language that does not have hate speech? They can travel anywhere in the country and have their rallies in any part of this country. They can go to Embobut, where I come from and everywhere else. How beautiful will it be for me to go and sell my policies somewhere in Homa Bay without worrying about my security? That is the country we want to build and that is what I saw from what the former Prime Minister and the President did. They were opening doors for Kenyans to continue engaging each other across the country without having the fear that their tribe and political parties are not dominant in those particular areas. There have also been a lot of discussions out there about who was consulted and who was not consulted. Consultation is a good thing, but if Nelson Mandela in Robben Island had confessed to the African National Congress (ANC) followers that he would sneak out at night to go and meet De Klerk’s men, the process of negotiating his release may not have succeeded. So, sometimes one person has to take the risk and be bold enough. That is the reason there is leadership. Can you imagine that President Uhuru Kenyatta went through difficult elections in August 2017, accepted to go through another election on 26th October, 2017? The election was made so difficult by his competitor that elections did not take place in other parts of the country. The language used was so strong and the feelings were not good, but the President was still willing to invite the former Prime Minister to talk. Can you imagine the former Prime Minister, having vied for presidency with strong faith that he was going to win, opted out of the repeat election and was ‘sworn in’, yet with humility, he still put that aside and decided to meet the President in order to unite our country? With all that, I strongly feel that the two leaders focused on legacy. That is the last statement I will make. We, as leaders, worry so much about what people will think about us 200 years to come. However, we will do things that are beyond our selfish interests. That is the message from the former Prime Minister. He is looking at his legacy, history and the impact he will cause in this country. Even though President Uhuru Kenyatta is now running the country, the former Prime Minister wants an environment where there is creation of jobs, development and the growth of economy. If the economy of this country goes down, it is not just a Jubilee or a NASA supporter who will lose, but the whole country.
