"content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to speak to this debate among other issues. At the outset, I wish to say, like my colleagues, that I am happy that I sat in here as the President gave his Speech. I applaud him for setting the pace for national healing and national reconciliation because that was the theme of the speech, in my opinion. Of course, that is alongside the fact that this country has continued to grow in spite of what we went through last year. Let me just say one thing. The comment that I really picked from the President’s Speech is that the economic growth did not slow down. It may have done so but not in any big way even as we went through our rather unpleasant economic activities of last year. In my opinion, one of the reasons is because the 2010 Constitution put in place institutions that are capable of withstanding the political turmoil that we seem to want to go through every five years. Those are the institutions that we need to continue strengthening and making sure that they function even when politics are not functioning or our behaviour gets a little bit wayward like it did last year.
