"content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is very sad because, from what the Assistant Minister has said, it is clear that the Government is not committed to addressing the plight of farmers. This is the harvesting season when there is plenty of maize. Surprisingly, a report was released recently by the Government to the effect that there will be a food crisis next year although it is not taking any action. So far, so good; if you talk to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), they will tell you that they have not received any communication from the Government over the official price of Kshs1,800 per bag of maize. At the moment, the price of a bag of maize is Kshs1,500. This is the case and yet the Assistant Minister has said that the price is Kshs1,800 per bag of maize. Is he in order to tell us that the price is Kshs1,800 whereas the price that we know is Kshs1,500 per bag of maize? Most NCPB depots are not open at the moment and yet it is raining in the whole region. We want the Assistant Minister to give us a timeframe and stop taking farmers in circles. Could he tell us when they will open the NCPB depots in order for the farmers to supply maize?"
