"content": " Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. Due to increased food prices and fuel costs, the World Food Programme (WFP) reduced its support for the School Feeding Programme by 38 per cent from 1.2 million to 750,000 school children in 2009. As a result, a retargeting exercise was carried out focusing on areas with high incidences of chronic food insecurity and poor educational indicators; that is low access, low net enrolment ratio, high dropout rates and poor attendance. Consequently, most of the districts in semi arid lands, including Kieni, were dropped out of the School Feeding Programme. In the process, Rurichu, Bellevue, Githura, Mweiga, Kiria, Wendiga and Embaringo primary schools in Kieni Constituency were affected. These schools will only be reconsidered under the Government funded home- grown school feeding programme when the Ministry gets additional funding and support from the Treasury and our development partners."
