"content": "I do not want to digress on this health matter. I want to comment on the health issue which Hon. Nyikal has alluded to. The Ministry of Health appeared before the Committee armed with a lot of information. In their submission, they said that they had tested 174 samples of sugar but there were no traces of heavy metals. For those who are not chemists, heavy metals are minerals like lead, mercury, copper and arsenic. They said that the only problem they detected in the 174 samples is the moisture content which was higher than normal. They also said that since the moisture content is higher than usual, that sugar is unfit for human consumption. That is 60 per cent of the 174 samples that they tested. We were very particular on the health issue."
