When I heard that the National Assembly was discussing this matter yesterday, it reminded me that in this Republic, whenever there are big issues of corruption and political magnitude, someone always has to engineer a dispute between the National Assembly and the Senate, so that we get preoccupied with that and it takes the headlines away from corruption and other things that are bedeviling this Nation. I was told not to respond to every dog that barks at me. I would have advised the Senate Majority Leader not to bring this Statement today, because we would be playing right into the hands of those who want us to fight forever and not deal with issues affecting the nation.
