    "content": "Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the current law provides that when a mining site is being abandoned--- There is a law that actually gives the procedure for that. There is an announcement that has to be made and gazetted that the place has been abandoned. The procedure of abandonment of a site is such that rehabilitation must follow in order to ensure that the environment is restored. So, there is a law in place to address this. The enforcement officers are on the ground. In fact, the NEMA is obliged to revisit any issues that touch on areas that have not been rehabilitated to the required standards. However, as I said, the new law will improve on that. There will be a time period within which if you have excavated, you must ensure that rehabilitation is done. Some of those areas will be tightened and I look forward to hon. Members participating vigorously when we bring the Bill before the House."
