"content": "is demeaning. But honestly, someone who has been a leader of such stature, seeing him fighting with a conductor of a matatu to allow him to alight at the lights made me feel very bad. That is a former Kenyan MP, a leader, someone who was respected and someone who has spoken on behalf of thousands of Kenyans in this august House. It is not fair. The issue of the MPs who served between 1983 and 2002 needs to be looked at seriously. We should give them living pension. If anything, Justice Cocker and Justice Akilano Akiwumi had made recommendations, in line with other jurisdictions. That is the practice in Uganda and Tanzania. Every former Member of Parliament is on living pension of at least US$1,000 per month. With all the wastage in the country, that is something we can afford as a country. I know any time you talk about giving some little money to leaders, it causes public outcry. But the bottom line is these have been our leaders."
