"content": "I want to give a synopsis of the events that led to what happened last year. The country experienced severe drought and famine in the Financial Year 2016/2017. As a result, the prices of basic commodities escalated beyond the reach of many Kenyans. To remedy the escalation of prices of basic commodities and other effects of the drought, His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces declared drought and famine as a national disaster through Executive Order No. 1 of 2017 on 10th February 2017.
