"content": " Hon. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research regarding the implementation of the Digital Literacy Program in primary schools, popularly known as the Laptop Project. Hon. Speaker, the Digital Literacy Programme is estimated to have received a budgetary allocation of about Kshs20 billion for supply of tablets for the 1.2 million children in public primary schools, in addition to entrenching Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning process and management of education in primary schools. For clarity, in the Financial Year 2018/2019, the programme was allocated Kshs11.9 billion for equipping schools with tablets and enhancing the ICT capacity of teachers. As of today, statistics show that about 19,000 out of the 23,951 public primary schools have received the tablets.
