    "content": "Prof. Kubasu was appointed Chairman of department by the university, the main reason being that he was seen as one of the senior members of staff, who would be able to guide teaching and research responsibilities of the university. This is generally the tradition where the university selects from senior lecturers, persons holding the position of senior lecturer and above. However, Prof. Kubasu declined the offer for a number of reasons. Firstly, he said that he is the National Chairman of UASU, and in that capacity, he still had responsibilities to carry out, including continuing negotiations with the Government and universities regarding employment terms for the UASU members."
