"content": " Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I wanted to contribute before you give a chance to Hon. Chris Wamalwa. I want to persuade him, in case, he wants to ask for more time. I was also among the 187 Members, but one who was not in agreement with this amendment. I would have voted against it. This is principally because of Article 255 of the Constitution in terms of issues that may require a referendum. Should we, for instance, need to extend the term of the President, the Constitution stipulates that the election of the President will be on the same day with the election of Members of Parliament. In a way, we would be extending the term of Parliament and that of the President. Therefore, it may have required a referendum. We need to engage in debate to ascertain whether such an amendment is necessary at this time."
