What I am trying to say is that we really need to take our healthcare system seriously, because the Kenyan doctors and paramedics work hard and they take an oath to serve people. Unfortunately, when we were reviewing our Constitution, of course, doctors were busy in hospitals delivering people and trying to take care of people’s lives. Where did they go? They were thrown to the counties. What happens? No salaries. A doctor works for this month and the next, hana mshahara . Sorry for that. How are they expected to live? We have people who have done medicine and paramedics like nurses who stay awake the whole night to take care of the sick. Who cares about what they earn? When we look at what the Government gives to take care of certain levels of development funded by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), it is restricted to education and security and yet when you go home as a Member of Parliament, people just cry about hospitals, “Mama tuletee hospitali.” “Bring us hospitals. We need hospitals.” That is what they tell us. You get so helpless. You go to the county governments, not that we do not work together, nobody wants to hear you. People have good titles like Minister for Health but there is no service delivery. This I must indicate here.
