Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move: THAT, clause 31 of the Bill be amended— (a) in paragraph (a)(iii) by deleting the proposed new item— Sugar Confectionery (including white Shs. 20. per Kg chocolate) of tariff heading 17.04; chocolate in blocks, slabs or bars of tariff Nos. 1808.31.00, 1806.32.00, 1806.90.00 The proposal here is that currently, if this exercise is passed, it is going to make Kenya very uncompetitive compared to countries like Uganda and Tanzania, and it will encourage imports and a lot of counterfeit products to come to Kenya. It is going to make our factories in Kenya be uncompetitive. They will close and move to other regions because this introduction is for the first time."
