"content": " Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me an opportunity to comment on this very important Petition. We went through this in Makueni recently when the construction of the railway was going on. There should be a better way of engaging the community. If those international contractors do not engage the community in advance, it will delay their work and cost the Government a lot more. Some of those matters can easily be resolved if the communities come together with the contractor, especially on the issue of the percentage of locals who will work on that particular project. In the case of Narok, if the locals are not working on the railway line, who will? It automatically means that the locals will not allow any other people to work on the project and it will be disrupted. For the benefit of this country, there should be close consultations, especially between the elected leadership and the owners of the contract, so that this railway line can be expedited. That is what we did when the line went through Makueni County. There were constant consultations. That will also work for Narok."
