    "content": "Hon. Members, this is Public Petition No.2 of 2019. Standing Order No.225 (2)(b) requires that the Speaker reports to the House any Petition other than those presented through a Member. I, therefore, wish to convey to the House that my office is in receipt of a Petition from members of the Mau Mau War Veterans Association seeking for leave of the House for the introduction of a Private Bill. You may wish to note that this Petition is not an ordinary one as the petitioners are asking for leave of the House to introduce a Private Bill aimed at providing for the recognition of the role of the Mau Mau Liberation Struggle Movement. The draft legislation attached to the Petition proposes, among other things, to acknowledge in law, the role of the Movement in the fight for Kenya’s independence and to provide for the documentation of the history and activities of the movement for posterity. The Petition complies with the provisions of Standing Order No.159 (1) which states: “No private Bill shall be introduced unless a Petition for the same, headed by the short title of the Bill, and signed by the parties, being promoters of the Bill, or some of them, has been previously presented to the House with a copy of the Bill annexed.” The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only.
