"content": "The number of the super-rich in Kenya is one of the fastest growing in the world. When you look at the economic activities that are creating these super rich individuals, nothing is showing on the ground. This is why this new found prosperity is not trickling down. If people become rich because of the economic activities in the country, then the trickle down effect can be felt. However, because there is no economic activity for this 8,000 people, there is nothing that will trickle. Therefore, it is up to this House to legislate and ensure that the dignity of the 44 million Kenyans is preserved and the right systems and in place. The preservation of human dignity is set out under Article 19 of the Constitution, where it talks about realisation of economic and social rights. Article 43 of the Constitution seeks to ensure the social and economic rights of these 44 million people. This House should see to it that the economic and social rights that have been negated, where the super-rich have continued and the gap is becoming untenable, should be ensured. This is because that is not good for our security, health or anything."
