It has come at a time when we need to relook into the matatu industry with a view to streamlining it and making it one of the best industries we have because it is vitally important to our economy. When it comes to the promoters of the Kenyan economy, you find that the matatu industry ranks quite high in terms of the income and employment it delivers. It is, therefore, important for us to look into this with a view of streamlining it and making it a near perfect competition market where parties can compete without interference. There may be a hitch regarding control on pricing in the industry. A near perfect or perfect competition market would call for a free market. There should be no regulation whatsoever and let everybody sell whatever commodity they have at whatever price that is attractive to the market. If we do that and make regulations that are important to this industry, the market will control the prices."
