    "content": "Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Thank you, Madam Captain from Lamu for donating your minute to me. I support this Motion from the outset. There are still myths about diabetes. There are still people who believe that diabetes is purely a hereditary disease, which it is not. People who have no history of diabetes in their families are still getting it. They still believe that it is an old man’s disease. Diabetes is also affecting young men who are 20, 30 or 40 years old because of their lifestyles. Diabetes is real. It is not a killing disease. If diagnosed on time, it is not a killer disease. If you are given proper advice by professionals on eating habits and the workouts that you should do, then it is not a killer disease. Diabetes is affecting people in the villages because we eat carbohydrates day in, day out. In the village they only eat potatoes and ugali. We should also change our eating habits. Diagnosis should be done every time you go to a hospital, the same way it is done for blood pressure, temperature and weight. When you go to a hospital, diabetes should be screened immediately.
