"content": "operatives and other criminal gangs has led to kidnappings, raids on security posts, attacks, piracy, banditry, proliferation of small arms and light weapons, youth recruitment and radicalisation. Following the inquiry into this project, the Committee made the following observations: (i) The pace of the execution of the Kenya-Somali Border Securitisation Project is very slow. It is imperative for the Government to open the Kenya-Somalia Border. This will lead to improvement in revenue collection when movement of persons and services is in place. (ii) There is significant improvement in the works currently undertaken by the contractor under KDF. (iii) The impact of the project is evident since its commencement and inception phase. Mandera Town has enjoyed relative peace with no incidents of terror attacks. This is only within Mandera Town. (iv) The project has largely been embraced by the local leadership in Mandera County.
