"content": "The 56th CPA Plenary Conference will be officially opened on Tuesday, 14th September, 2010 at the KICC by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Kenya, Hon. Mwai Kibaki, CGH, MP, in his capacity as the Vice-Patron of the Association. The official opening ceremony will be preceded by two other meetings namely; the Small Branches Conference which will take place on Sunday 12th September, 2010 and the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Conference which will take place on 13th September, 2010 at KICC. I assure all hon. Members that preparations for the conference under the stewardship of the chairperson of the organizing committee, Hon. David Musila, MGH, MP and Assistant Minister, Ministry of State for Defence are on course and that we promise a most eventful conference. This conference would not be taking place at a better place than when we as a country, are on the high gear in re-affirming our place in the community of nations in view of the promulgation of the new Constitution and coming against the backdrop of the political and social challenges that we faced as a country in 2007/2008. As one scholar Dexter Fletcher put it, âa winner is one who accepts his failures and mistakes, picks up the pieces and continuous striving to reach his goals.â This is the spirit that we must keep burning. The theme of the conference is; âParliament and Development in the 21st Century Far and Beyondâ and is befitting of our case as much as to the commonwealth country. You may further wish to note that on Friday, 17th September, 2010 one of the topics for the day will be: âThe Role of Parliament in Peace Building â The Case of Kenya in Addressing Post-Election Violence in 2008â which I believe will give Kenyan participants an opportunity to share with their counterparts our experiences. This will avail to us an equal opportunity for exchange of ideas amongst us and hon. Members will ultimately emerge more effective representatives of the people of Kenya. The forthcoming conference will also go a long way in promoting regional and international co-operation and give the delegates an insight into our countryâs political, social and economic development. I, therefore, take this opportunity to appeal to all hon. Members to be part and parcel of the success of the conference. I, therefore, invite all hon. Members to attend the official opening of the conference which as stated earlier, will take place on 14th September, 2010. All delegates and conference participants are expected to be seated by 9.30 a.m. at the KICC Tsavo Ball Room. Thank you."
