"content": "Pursuant to Standing Order 48(1), I rise to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Affairs on the re-opening of the Immigration Center in Eldoret. In the statement, the Committee should state:- (1) The reasons why the Eldoret Immigration Centre has not been operational for more than three years now. (2) The reasons and the circumstances that prompted the immigration centre to be closed and its staff redeployed, yet it was serving a very large number of counties in Western and former Rift Valley provinces. (3) The reasons why the immigration department chose to retain only three centres across the country, thus making the process of acquiring a passport tedious and expensive, especially for the people living in counties such as Nandi, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kakamega, Baringo and many other regions that are within the North Rift. (4) The reasons that have occasioned the delay in re-opening the immigration centre in Eldoret despite the several promises of re-opening it,and indicate when the Government plans to re-open it. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate."
