"content": "(Prof. Saitoti): Thank you very much, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to make my contribution to this Motion for Adjournment. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, from the outset, let me say that it is good that we are having this adjournment. This is because we, hon. Members, definitely, do require to go back to our constituencies to be able to thank, once again, the people who sent us here. We need to thank them for making great contribution in passing the new Constitution, and even more importantly, for turning out wherever they were to celebrate the rebirth of this country really as a new Kenya. On that note, definitely, it behooves us, as Members of Parliament, to also realize – and I am sure we do – that Kenya today, after the promulgation of the Constitution on 27th August, 2010, is no longer the same. This is because Kenyans expect a great deal of us. We must be the ones leading them. I think we must take into account the fact that before the promulgation of the Constitution, we actually spent a lot of time criticizing each other. We have had occasions where in actual fact some of us may not have been giving the right advice to Kenyans. But this is an important occasion to begin by urging Kenyans now to remain as Kenyans and be able to understand that this is the moment where they must now stand as brothers and sisters. Yes, we may belong to different ethnic groups, but the key thing is that this Constitution is the glue that should bind us together as brothers and sisters because only then can we address and, indeed, solve resolutely the main challenges we have of poverty and providing employment to our young. Let bygones be bygones now. We should go now"
