    "content": " Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me a chance to contribute to this issue of the elderly people. Village elders are the first element of administration in this country. I lived in a family which provided chiefs, assistant chiefs and village elders. In those days, village elders were appreciated by the community to the extent that goats, chicken and wimbi would be taken to their homes for their consumption. That does not happen anymore. Village elders solve land issues. Especially where I come from, there are many land issues. Before they get to the courts, most of them are solved by the village elders. Village elders identify youth that are being radicalised to join terrorist groups. Village elders participate in marriage ceremonies so that they can identify if a child is below the age of marriage. Village elders know the issues that affect our people at the grassroots. We passed a Motion of this type three years ago. I am glad my colleague George was able to revive this.
