"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity. I support this Motion because of the importance of village elders. Village elders are very critical in running of village affairs. These are people who mobilise communities during health crisis like Kick Polio Out campaigns. They are the ones who mobilise people and educate them on health matters. These are people who identify orphans. They also identify thugs in the village. People use them for various activities. Even researchers – I have used them myself – use them for research purposes. When I want to meet women of a particular group to answer certain questions for research, these are the people I go to first. So, they are very important. Nobody can work for one year, two years or three years for free. Nobody does voluntary work like that. They have to be paid. These people have families and children going to school. These people also fall sick. They need to go to school. These people need financial support. To expect them to work for free would be a big dream."
