In my visits to various places, particularly India; Bangalore and Hyderabad, I have confirmed that the cost of dialysis can be reduced to as low as Kshs1, 500. It depends on having some efficiency gains in employing the measures I have proposed. We have discussed with KNH. I have communicated this information to our specialist. I think if we work closely with those who have gone very far in dialysis like hospitals in India and again, if we adopt new policies of insurance that we are introducing, I am quite sure that the burden to the cost of health care will go down considerably to our patients. Indeed, if we adopt the new policy of NHIF in financing, the patient will bear no cost. You will get this dialysis without paying anything. Therefore, we must enhance insurance through the NHIF and also have efficiency gains by using much more efficient systems in dialyzing patients. What the hon. Member is saying will indeed be realized. It can be done and we are determined to do it."
