    "content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.48(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation concerning the state of Loiyangalani Airstrip in Marsabit County. In the Statement, the Committee should- (1) Indicate the plans the Government has to rehabilitate Loiyangalani Airstrip to bitumen standards and improve it to a level where it can accommodate large aircraft considering that the airstrip is an important access point to among other, the Loiyangalani Resort on the eastern shores of Lake Turkana which plays host to the annual Lake Turkana Cultural Festival. (2) Indicate what measures are in place to ensure that they schedule airline services to the region in order to promote tourism and open up the economy of Marsabit County and the region generally. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to state that this is a situation that we have experienced. I remember that last time, during the last festival, visitors who came had to land in Lodwar and come to Loiyangalani using helicopters. So, it is a serious issue that the Committee should take seriously."
