"content": "Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.48(1) to seek a statement from the Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation concerning the state of the Malaba International Border point. Mr. Speaker, Sir, in the Statement, the Committee should- (1) State when the Malaba One Stop border point will be operationalized. (2) Explain when the Government plans to improve the road infrastructure to reduce congestion on the road leading to and around the border point on the Kenyan side, considering that the Ugandan side of the road is in good state. For instance, for the last couple of weeks, trucks have formed queues of up to 25 kilometres stretching from Malaba in Busia County to Kimayeti Town in Bungoma County. (3) State what other plans the Government has to address safety issues posed by congestion of trucks at the border; some of whose cargo is inflammable and dangerous, but have to queue for hours on end in the sweltering heat of the area and could easily explode. (4) State when the Government plans to construct the Nairobi-Malaba Road, The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
