"content": "To that extent, South Africa has done so well in opening up and making sure that sexual orientation is not a matter to bring about discrimination. You can see even the leadership there from the President down talking about the gay community and so on. Here we are still trying to live in the past. There are many other things the world is coming to live with and we cannot be an island. Even as we say we are a nation of religions, we must also remember also there was one time that Kenya---. It would rather be said that Kenya was a Christian country at one point in time which was not true because there were so many religions. I think it was courageous of those who worked hard and formulated this Constitution not to recognise Kenya as a nation which was committed to any particular religion. This was the great message of Mahatma Gandhi who lived in India where Hindu nationalism was at its height."
