They would like to see more forest cover moving from the 7.8 per cent towards the 10 per cent that is acceptable internationally. For that reason, I support this Petition. I know that the Departmental Committee on Lands also supported it and even noted that it is the responsibility of Government to ensure that the community is not provided land on the lower areas. The people cannot then make a decision that they are not going to move from the upper areas where the Government expects to plant more trees to ensure there is no erosion which would destroy the lower areas."
