"content": "I come from Nandi County where apart from having tea, coffee and maize farmers, we also produce a lot of milk. These prices keep fluctuating until there is a milk glut. So, we want to know what the national Government and county governments are doing. We are cognizant of the fact that agriculture is a devolved function. Therefore, we expect milk prices to remain at Kshs50 or 60 per litre. Mr. Speaker, Sir, a person who processes other milk products, for example, cream and ghee sells it at Kshs150 while a farmer gets less yet he or she takes care of cows. The prices of animal feeds are high. Cows are treated by extension officers and sometimes there is need to procure Artificial Insemination (AI) services. It is expensive to treat milk producing cows. So, farm inputs are expensive, but the output is low which is unfortunate."
